How do I try out for the Competitive Squad or Travel Team?
In order to try out for the Competitive Squad or Travel Team, you must first register for the club and become a member. This means following all of the steps outlined on the Join page. On your sign-up form, you must indicate that you would like to play in the Kick-Off Tournament, as well as your intention to try out. If you have already filled out your sign-up form and need to edit it, you can do so in the Account Settings.
When is the Kick-Off Tournament?
It starts Tuesday, September 8th! Dues must be payed in order to participate.
What should I do if I have a conflict with the Kick-Off Tournament?
If you absolutely cannot play in the Kick-Off Tournament because of another conflict, please contact the President or Travel Team Captains to discuss an alternative way to try out. We ask that you try your best to play in the Kick-Off Tournament to avoid this situation.
How do I make the Travel Team?
Based on your results in the Kick-Off Tournament and how much you impress the Travel Team Captains, selections will be made. Call-backs may occur, subject to the Travel Team Captains.
How do I make the Competitive Squad?
Based on your performance in the open-hitting tryouts during the first week of practice and your results in the Kick-Off Tournament, selections will be made at the discretion of the Core Four (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary).
What should I do if I don't make the teams?
Even if you don't make a team, we strongly encourage you to remain active in the club. Because tryouts for the Travel Team and Competitive Squad are so competitive, there are a lot of really good players who don't make a team who still actively participate. Within the Regular Club, you will definitely be able to find competitive matches.
What about tournaments?
The Travel Team travels to several tournaments throughout the year, usually on a weekend. Most of these tournaments take place in the Northeastern United States. The Travel Team will also play in the USTA Tennis on Campus National Championship in Arizona if the team qualifies. The Competitive Squad and Regular Club will also have many opportunities to play in-house tournaments.
Can I try out for the Travel Team after final selections for the team have been made?
Once the Kick-Off Tournament and call-backs have ended, and final selections of the roster have been made, there's no way to try out for the team.
